Privacy Policy

ChargeDetector is a fully local tool. You export your inbox from Google Takeout, upload the file, and we scan it right in your browser. Nothing is ever sent to a server — there is no server.

1. How It Works

  • You visit takeout.google.com and export your Gmail as a .mbox or .json file
  • You upload that file on ChargeDetector — the file never leaves your device
  • We scan only email subject lines, sender names, and dates
  • All processing happens in your browser. No cloud. No API.

2. Data Accessed

  • Email subject lines — to detect subscription patterns
  • Sender names (From header) — to identify each service
  • Email dates — to determine timeline and current status
  • Message IDs — for deduplication
  • Short snippets (first 200 chars of each email)
  • We NEVER read full email body content
  • We NEVER access attachments, contacts, or Drive files

3. Data Storage & Processing

  • Everything happens in your browser — nothing is transmitted to any server
  • Uploaded file content is temporarily held in your browser's local storage (IndexedDB)
  • File data is deleted from storage immediately after scanning finishes
  • No database. No cloud storage. No server-side logging. Zero backend.

4. Data Sharing

  • No user data is shared, sold, or transmitted to any third party
  • Plausible Analytics (privacy-focused, cookie-free) counts page visits only
  • No advertising trackers. No fingerprinting.

5. Data Retention & Deletion

  • All uploaded file data is cleared from browser storage when scanning finishes
  • Results auto-delete when you close the browser tab (24h max)
  • No backups or copies exist anywhere
  • You have full control — we cannot see, access, or recover your data

6. Your Control

  • You choose exactly which emails to export from Google Takeout
  • No account, no login, no registration required
  • Use as many times as you want, with zero persistent record

ChargeDetector does not use any Google APIs or OAuth scopes. You control what data you export and upload. Nothing leaves your browser. There is nothing to revoke, nothing to opt out of — the entire app runs locally.
